Russell’s Cafe has two location in the St. Louis area. One location is in Fenton, MO and the other is on Macklind Ave in the Southampton neighborhood. Both feature full-service bakeries and cafe faire. The larger Macklind location features a much bigger menu, full service dinner, and fully stocked bar.
A major challenge for this website was creating separate spaces for each restaurant while maintaining a common look and feel. Our solution was to make a simple html splash page at russellscafe.com that would navigate to the Fenton and Macklind location’s own subdomains. With this solution, each subdomain could register as a separate website on Google Local and track analytics separately as well. Both subdomains link to each other at the farthest right of the main navigation – so you’re always just a click away from the sister location. In the future, if owner Russell Ping decides to open a third, forth or tenth location, we’ll be ready to make each location its own unique site.
Both sites features the bold and beautiful photography of Jonathan Gayman. We showcase Jonathan’s images in responsive full-width image galleries in the header of each page. The result are mouth-watering pages optimized for every screen size. Our favorites include the Russell’s Cafe – Macklind dinner menu page and about page.
Phoenix Design also produced some small video vignettes to be used through out the site. The videos are used as design elements, and one is used to show off the newly-remodeled second floor dining room.
